Frequently Asked Questions About Sand Ford Access Boat Launch
Is this ramp suitable for saltwater boats?
Yes, Island Ford Access provides access to coastal waters. The ramp can accommodate most saltwater fishing boats, bay boats, and flats skiffs. Larger offshore vessels should verify water depth and clearance, especially at low tide.
Do I need a saltwater fishing license in North Carolina?
North Carolina requires a valid saltwater fishing license for anglers 16 and older. Additional stamps may be required for certain species. Licenses can be purchased online or at local tackle shops. Always check current regulations before fishing.
Are there strong currents near Island Ford Access?

What tidal conditions are best for launching at Island Ford Access?
For saltwater launches like Island Ford Access, most boaters prefer launching within 2 hours of high tide. This provides adequate water depth at the ramp and makes navigating shallow areas easier. What are the hours at Island Ford Access?
Many public boat ramps operate 24 hours, though some have posted hours or gate closures. Island Ford Access access times may vary by season. Plan to launch during daylight hours when possible for safety and easier maneuvering.
Boater Reviews
Two single lane ramps that are both paved. The further west one of the two is handicap accessible. I have to say that I'm impressed with Missouri and the public launches here because I have not seen nearly as many, if any, back home that have similar features for people with limited mobility. Both ramps appear to be perpendicular to the current which will probably make loading a more difficult chore. The water level seemed at a mid-range and certainly it has been higher.
A nice boat ramp along the Meramec River close to Meramec Caverns campground. The large area near the entrance blooms beautifully in spring with Virginia Bluebells.
Great access to put in and take out your boat. They have 2 ramps.
You can see the bottom of river all the way across right now.
Great place to take off on your float.
